Washing
Most Zaam abayas can be machine washed on a delicate cycle at 30°C with similar colours. Use a mild detergent and avoid fabric softener, which can dull the finish. For embellished, satin and delicate pieces, hand wash in cool water.
Aftercare
A few simple habits will keep your Zaam abaya looking elegant, colour-true and ready to wear for years.
Most Zaam abayas can be machine washed on a delicate cycle at 30°C with similar colours. Use a mild detergent and avoid fabric softener, which can dull the finish. For embellished, satin and delicate pieces, hand wash in cool water.
Hang your abaya to dry in the shade. Avoid direct sunlight, which can fade black and darker shades over time. Never tumble dry — heat weakens fibres and can shrink natural fabrics like linen.
Use a handheld steamer on a medium setting to remove creases. If you prefer an iron, choose a low heat and press on the reverse side, especially for satin, crepe and embellished pieces. Never place a hot iron directly over beads or embroidery.
Store on a padded hanger in a breathable garment bag. Leave space between pieces so air can circulate. Avoid plastic covers, which can trap moisture and cause odours.
Hand wash in cool water, turning the garment inside out. Do not rub the embellished surface. Press gently between two towels to remove excess water, then dry flat away from direct heat.
Satin is delicate. Wash on a delicate cycle inside a mesh bag, or hand wash. Avoid wringing. Dry flat or hang in the shade. Steam from the reverse to avoid shine marks.
Linen will crease naturally — this is part of its character. Wash on a gentle cycle, reshape while damp, and hang to dry. A quick steam or iron on the reverse will refresh it beautifully.
Wash black abayas inside out with similar dark colours. Use a mild, colour-safe detergent. Avoid direct sunlight when drying to keep the colour rich and deep.
